Once you’ve completed A1, the next step is A2 – the level where your German starts to become truly functional. At this stage, you’re no longer a complete beginner. You’re building on the basics and gaining the confidence to hold more complex conversations and express yourself in greater detail.

What is A2?

A2 is the elementary level in the CEFR scale. It helps you move beyond survival German into comfortable everyday communication. You learn to handle common situations, share opinions, talk about your past and future, and engage in basic discussions.

By the end of A2, you’ll be able to:

  • ✅ Talk about past events and experiences using the perfect tense
  • ✅ Describe your routines, goals, travel plans, and opinions

  • 🗣️ Speaking practice: discussions, interviews, giving reasons and explanations
  • ✍🏽 Writing: short opinion pieces, formal/informal emails, descriptions

B1 Level German

A1 Level German

B1 Level German

After mastering the A1 and A2 levels, B1 is the next big step — it’s where you move from basic knowledge to independent communication. At this stage, your German becomes much more flexible and useful in real-world situations.

What is B1?

B1 is the intermediate level in the CEFR scale. At this level, you’re expected to express opinions, handle unexpected situations, and communicate clearly in both personal and professional environments.

By the end of B1, you’ll be able to:

  • ✅ Hold meaningful conversations in German on work, travel, culture, and everyday life
  • ✅ Express and justify your opinions in writing and speech
  • ✅ Understand the main points of clear, standard speech on familiar topics
  • ✅ Write structured texts, reports, and emails
  • ✅ Use more advanced grammar, including past tenses, connectors, passive voice, and subjunctive forms

What We Cover at Fluent Academy in B1:

Our B1 program runs for three to four months (depending on your progress), with two classes per week, and is taught fully online on Microsoft Teams. This course is ideal for those preparing to live, study, or work in a German-speaking country.

You’ll learn to:

  • 📚 Master grammar: use of multiple past tenses (Perfekt, Präteritum), subjunctive mood (Konjunktiv II), passive voice, relative clauses, and more
  • 💬 Speak with depth: express emotions, make suggestions, describe experiences, and debate opinions
  • ✍️ Write effectively: formal letters, argumentative texts, application letters
  • 🎧 Listen actively: understand interviews, podcasts, presentations, and news
  • 📄 Prepare for the B1 Goethe or TELC exams, with mock tests and feedback
  • 🌍 Engage in real-world topics: work, travel, education, health, and culture

B1 is the level where your German becomes practical and powerful — allowing you to function confidently in German-speaking environments, and opening doors for job applications, study opportunities, and long-term residence.
