The A1 level is the starting point for anyone learning German. Whether you’re completely new to the language or haven’t spoken it in years, this level is all about laying the foundation for confident communication.
What is A1?
A1 is the beginner level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At this level, learners focus on basic vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structures. You’ll be able to introduce yourself, hold simple conversations, and understand everyday expressions.

Once you’ve completed A1, the next step is A2 – the level where your German starts to become truly functional. At this stage, you’re no longer a complete beginner. You’re building on the basics and gaining the confidence to hold more complex conversations and express yourself in greater detail.
What is A2?
A2 is the elementary level in the CEFR scale. It helps you move beyond survival German into comfortable everyday communication. You learn to handle common situations, share opinions, talk about your past and future, and engage in basic discussions.
